@grievous1 agree with everything but id go with slumdog millionare for best picture. really clever story, real grasping, not to say i didnt like milk
I still can’t believe Ebert thought Witherspoon was perfect in Walk The Line…well, at least Roeper got it right that year…
Mickey Rourke should have won. He was spectacular. That last 10 minutes fo the film are absolutely brilliant. Again, it doesn’t matter who says what. Hollywood is even more political than the Country itself. Rourke was robbed.
@DistinguishedFlyer never mind, you’re right. i could have sworn that i read an article ebert wrote about that, but u guess it must have been someone else…
Check again.
big mistake here. roger ebert has very clearly made it known that he thought brokeback mountain was a much better movie than crash and deserved the oscar much more, as i believe, did roeper
A mistake here – Roeper preferred Sean Penn, rather than Mickey Rourke, in 2008.
@DistinguishedFlyer Oh yeah, not taking away anything from Ebert, he is one of the best movie journalist/writers ever., but he di hate Gladiator, Fight Club and The Usual Suspects. Not to mention him and Siskel liked Speed 2 and Anaconda! Guess you can’t be right every time right? They did both like the original Halloween though.
These are preferences rather than predictions – Ebert has usually been dead on when it comes to predicting the winners (even surprise ones, like Tomei in 1992, Shakespeare in 1998 & Crash in 2005). The only big (and not unexpected) one that I can remember him getting wrong recently was Gladiator, though that was probably because he didn’t like it much. Most people predicted its victory that year.
@DistinguishedFlyer Just that he made more accurate predictions than Ebert. Gotta hand to Ebert though, he definitely has his opinions set in stone and they are unwavered.
In what way, do you think?
Roeper was more consistent with his choices.
dude wrestler shoulda won best movie ever

Too be fair Terrence Howard was good , Ledger was better !

I can’t take seriously two guys who didn’t choose Daniel Day Lewis in 2007/2008 for “There Will Be Blood”
LOL I can’t take seriously two guys who didn’t choose Cotillard for Best Actress in 2007/2008. Sorry.
Didn’t think i would side more with Roeper, but i do. Disagree violently with both about crash though.
